Artist's Description
This appears to be a younger lynx running in the winter snow. Lynx will stay with their mother until they are about 10 to 11 months old, some siblings may band together for a little while even after they leave their mother for security. Canadian Lynx are equipped with very thick fur and exceptionally large paws. The reason why they have these adaptions is to protect them and aid them in the snowy habitat in which they do live in. Lynx paws are quite large and rounded with fur on the pads that act as snowshoes, allowing the Lynx to easily move on the snow. Lynx are short-tailed wildcats with usually long black tufted ear tips and a mane of longer hair around the face and neck. Generally solitary animals, they roam alone and are very territorial.
Lynx have amazing hearing and sight. Long black tufts at the tips are thought to enhance their hearing by funneling sounds into the ears. The scientific name is Lynx canadensis.
