Description
SIBERIAN TIGER - PANTHERA TIGRIS ALTAICA. This tiger is running through a deep and heavy snow storm. The tiger markings are so unique, no two tigers have the same striped pattern on their coats. The markings on a tigers fur are also found on their skin, so even a shaved tiger would still show its stripes. The Amur tiger, also known as the Siberian tiger are the biggest of all of the tiger species. They have russet colors, with a pink nose, amber eyes and thick black stripes that band their bodies in patterns as unique as any fingerprint. Tigers have eyes with round pupils, unlike our domestic cats. Tigers have color vision just like us humans. To survive winter the tiger has fine but long fur, Its thicker fur and a layer of fat that allows it to stand the bitter cold. It has large paws which act a lot like snow shoes. A thick layer of fat along its belly and flanks, allow it to live within the cold. In the winter months it fur get denser and becomes longer, softer, which creates a collar around it neck for warmth. The majority of Siberian tigers live within the coniferous, scrub oak and birch woodlands in the Sikhote Alin mountain region of the Primorski Krai region of Russia, some in northeast China and northern North Korea. Siberian tiger's legs are thick and large, the hind legs are larger and allow them to be good jumpers. Siberian tiger's huge paws have retractable claws. They stalk their prey, which include elk, boar, bears, and deer mainly, also smaller animals like rabbits, pikas, and some fish. The Siberian tiger is endangered mammal. Tigers cannot purr like cats. The tigers expression of content, they squint and or close their eyes. This is because losing vision lowers their defense, so tigers only purposefully do so when they feel comfortable and safe. Unlike many other animals, tigers do not drink water by lapping it up on the top of their tongue, due to their tongue bristles. Instead, they cup the back of their tongue to flick water droplets into the air, which they then close their mouth over. Tigers use their tails for balance when they run through fast turns. They also use their tails to communicate with other tigers. Tiger are rare and beautiful animals.
